IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM THE RIDLEY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
The Ridley Township Board of Commissioners are deeply concerned for the safety and well-being of all our residents. In light of the recent and tragic death of Abby Gillon and serious injury to Bella Jones, we are reminding everyone that electric scooters are strictly prohibited on all streets and sidewalks within the township.
This restriction is in accordance with Township Ordinance No. 1843, Code of the Township of Ridley, Section 299-6, which reads in part:
…No person shall operate any motor-driven vehicle or devices, including but not limited to electric scooters and motorized go-carts, upon any sidewalk or street located in the Township…
The Ridley Township Police Department will be enforcing this ordinance. Violators may be subject to citations and/or confiscation of the scooter.
We urge parents and guardians to speak with their children about this important safety issue and to remain vigilant. Together, we can prevent further tragedy and ensure the safety of our community.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Public safety alerts like the Ridley Township ordinance highlight how essential it is to establish clear rules that protect lives and prevent future tragedies. In healthcare and legal support, similar safeguards are needed to ensure efficiency, compliance, and trust. At Doctor Management Services, we provide solutions designed to streamline operations, and our expertise in Personal Injury Practice Management helps practices handle sensitive cases with accuracy and care, supporting both providers and the communities they serve.
This is unconstitutional and illegal they cannot create a blanket ordinance like this. A federal judge should immediately over turn this and send a warning to this township and all other considering such ordinance like this.
Are police cars, and fire trucks motor driven vehicles?
I use a scooter to commute to work in the twp. Who can I talk to. Will the township provide me money to commute otherwise. My scooter is equipped with lights and turn signals because I am concerned for my safety. Who do I speak to.
I think the township of commissioners should revise this ordinance.. they should have motorized scooters obey traffic laws instead of banning altogether
