🚨 Public Safety Reminder: E-Scooter Laws in Ridley Township

Following a tragic accident in Aston Township, the Ridley Township Police Department is reminding residents, especially parents and young riders, about the laws regarding electric scooters and similar devices.

📜 What You Need to Know: E-scooters cannot be legally operated on public roads, sidewalks, or public parks in Pennsylvania, including those in Ridley Township. They do not meet the registration, inspection, and equipment requirements needed for public road use under PennDOT regulations.

Township Ordinance #1843 allows for fines up to $1,000 per offense and possible vehicle confiscation if these rules are violated. The only lawful place to ride an e-scooter is on private property with the property owner’s permission.

📊 The PA Department of Transportation’s Micromobility Fact Sheet provides a breakdown of the rules for e-scooters, e-bikes, bicycles, Segways, and more. Please review it and make sure you and your family understand the requirements.

🛑 Our goal is simple: prevent accidents, save lives, and keep our community safe. Parents, please talk to your children about these laws and the risks of riding e-scooters on public streets or sidewalks.

For full details, visit the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)’s fact sheet and review Ridley Township’s ordinance.
